Sports Day!

We had a family Sports Day last weekend and did our kids ever love it!! (The end of that sentence should be read with heavy sarcasm and eye rolls.) When Ross and I were dating, one Sunday afternoon we rode bikes at a local trail. Then later that same day we played tennis and played catch. I don't remember if we had planned to do all of that activity that day or not, but we had a fun time and called it Sports Day! We did Sports Day again the next year and added in another sport to our mix. I think we only did it for two years and then it stopped. I'd say we just forgot about it and then had a couple of kids so really didn't have time. Well, this year I decided to bring it back! I told the girls about it and they seemed really excited for it, but that excitement didn't last long once we got going!

This year we planned to do biking, kickball, softball, and basketball. We brought our bikes up to the school playground and rode around a few times and then moved on to kickball. Molly was done after the bike riding because she got really hot. We got her to play a little kickball with us, but after that she was done! Lucy, Ross, and I then moved on to basketball and had a fun time playing around with that.

Sports Day didn't go quite as I had expected, but that's okay. I still had fun! Maybe we'll try again next year!

Summer Beginning Fun!

Our first day of summer break was Friday, May 28. The girls had to go to the gym with me for my class but after that we stopped at Krispy Kreme to get some yummy donuts! You can never go wrong with donuts! We then met up with Gumma and had a fun time eating lunch at Chick-fil-A, shopping at Clarie's, and then trying to find a few garage sales to shop at. It was a good start to summer!

Field Day!

Our school had Field Day on the day before the last day of school and it turned out to be such a great day! It had been raining quite a bit on the days leading up to Field Day and all week the forecast showed rain all day. Well, that morning we woke up to full sunshine and that sunshine remained all day long with no rain whatsoever! It made for a hot day, as Lucy and Molly were outside in the afternoon, but it was so glorious to see the sun! I volunteered and helped at one of the games for the afternoon session. It was a lot of fun and I was so thankful to be able to help after the crazy year this has been!

School Awards

Both Lucy and Molly came home with some very special awards on the last day of school! Lucy came home with the Citizenship Award! One person from each class is picked for this award and it's an award given to the student who was just all around good all year. I'm so proud of her for receiving this award! She also received it last year at the end of first grade! I couldn't be prouder!

Molly received the MVP award for her class for the month of May! She received this for showing PRIDE behavior throughout the entire school building. She was following all the rules in her class, in music class, computer class, the lunchroom, recess, PE class, and everything else she did at school. I am so proud of Molly and the great job she did in kindergarten this year!

Last Day Of School!

May 27 was our last day of school! The girls were so good to let me take pictures of them at home and again at school in front of the sign. (I wonder how many years I'll have left of doing that with little to no complaining involved?!)

Overall this school year was a good one! It started in an odd way with being completely on our own at home on Monday and Tuesday, virtual school on Wednesday, and at school on Thursday and Friday for the first quarter. Second quarter and third quarter we were at school Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with a virtual day still on Wednesday. Fourth quarter they went back to school all five days and I'm so glad they did! We also managed to get through the year without having to do any Covid quarantines. I am SO very thankful for that!

Lucy completed second grade and has learned so much! One of the things I'm most excited about that she learned is how to write in cursive! She has such pretty handwriting and I know she's very happy that she can now write in cursive. She has really started to enjoy reading and is good at math, but I don't think it's her favorite! She had a good teacher and and overall good year!

Molly completed kindergarten! As Lucy said, we will never be in kindergarten again since we don't have a child younger than Molly! That's kind of a sad thought, but on to better things! We were so very thankful that Molly had the same kindergarten teacher that Lucy had and we absolutely loved her! Molly did such a great job in school! She finally has "her" friends and not just Lucy's friends and her little BFF actually lives a few doors down from us on our street! Molly learned how to read and actually scored very high on her end-of-year reading test! I am so very proud of her! She also received the MVP award in her class for the month of May!

Now on to summer with a Florida beach vacation and lots of time at the neighborhood pool!
