We went to my parents' house last weekend to play out in the snow. My dad got his mule out and pulled us all around on the sleds and it was such a fun time! We went around and around his yard and then down in one of the fields. He pulled us some and then we sledded down a hill a few times. It was a great time! You can watch us here and here!
Ross has been working at City Utilities now for nine months and has kind of gotten an office upgrade! When he started he thought he would be in a cubicle, so was really surprised to find that he had an actual office with walls that went all the way to the ceiling and a door.
A few months ago they did some office switching and he moved to a different office that has a window! He was happy to have the window and decided it was time to decorate his office. He asked for a few movie posters for Christmas and put those up, along with some framed family pictures and a few other knickknacks he's received over the years. It all looks really nice!
You'll notice a plant behind his desk in the picture below....someone gave him that plant but it doesn't seem to be doing too well. I'm not sure if he will keep it around or not.
Our school has a Spelling Bee that is broken up into two parts. The first part takes place in each classroom (we have three classrooms per grade level and our school has grades K-5). The winners of each classroom Spelling Bee then go on to compete against each other (18 students total) for the schoolwide Spelling Bee. The winner of that can then go on to a regional Spelling Bee, with that winner eventually making their way to the National Scripps Spelling Bee.
A Spelling Bee information letter and practice list came home with both girls right when we went back to school after Christmas. The Spelling Bee was originally scheduled for Friday, January 21, but had to be postponed because school was closed that day due to high Covid numbers. The girls went back to school on January 31 and Molly's classroom had their Spelling Bee that day. Molly was excited to participate and did a good job practicing her word list at home. I was so excited when she got in the car after school that day and she told me she had won! I was so happy and proud of her!
Lucy's class did their Spelling Bee the next day and Lucy was less than thrilled to participate! She had told us she wasn't going to do it, but I guess her teacher made each student do the Spelling Bee! When Lucy got in the car after school that day I was beyond excited to hear her say that she won her Spelling Bee! How exciting that both girls won their classroom Spelling Bees!
They each came home with a letter explaining the next steps for the Spelling Bee, along with a list of 450 words to study! Lucy and I have been going over the words and they are quite a lot harder than the first round of words to study! The schoolwide Spelling Bee will take place on February 18. I am so proud of them! Of course I would love for one of them to win, but it doesn't matter if neither wins. All that matters is they tried it and gave it their best!
We updated the playroom last month! I've been thinking about doing this for a while because the girls never really play in it. I decided to go through it and clean some stuff out and also paint the walls. It was a cream color, but we painted it the grey knitting needles color that our kitchen and entryway are. I think it looks really nice, especially with the white trim that Ross painted last year. We did move out the baby doll items we had in the playroom because they are just not played with. My girls have never really been into baby dolls, so I didn't mind moving them. We left the kitchen and laundry playset and moved a desk from Molly's room into the playroom so it can be like a school area. I really like how it turned out and the best part - I didn't have to buy any new decorations! Everything that is on the wall was either there before or I took from somewhere else in the house. Hopefully this room will be used a little more now!
We got snow last week and had three snow days! It snowed overnight Wednesday to Thursday and then all day Thursday. Thursday was a pretty cold day and we did play outside a bit. I shoveled the driveway, which totally wore me out! That is hard work!
It was fun watching he girls play around, especially Lucy. She absolutely loved playing in the snow! Molly has always loved to eat the snow and apparently Lucy does, too. You can watch them eat snow here!
