Lucy's Pre-K Progress Report

One day last week Lucy came home with a progress report from preschool. I was so surprised and so excited to see this! Technically, she's in Pre-K, so this is a Pre-K progress report, letting us know how she's doing with everything she's learning. Shes mastered most everything, with a few items marked still working on or not yet. I'm very pleased with our preschool. It is neat to see what all Lucy has learned and how she has grown since starting school in August 2016. I am so very proud of Lucy, too!

The Cookie Monster

A few weeks ago Molly wasn't doing something I needed her to do. It was either eating her meal, getting dressed, getting out of the bath, I don't remember what it was. I told her that if she didn't do what I needed her to do, then the cookie monster would come get her. Boy, did that ever get her in gear! For whatever reason, she was really afraid when I said that and did what she was supposed to. Ever since then I've been using the cookie monster threat and she does what I need! If she won't eat, I tell her that she needs to eat or the cookie monster will come. If she won't get dressed, I tell her she needs to get dressed or the cookie monster will come.....and it works, every. single. time.

Part of me feels bad about this because you can see a look of fear come over her face as she hurries to do what she needs to do. But, the other part of me doesn't feel bad because let's face it, the 2s and 3s are hard years and sometimes parents just need a break and help getting toddlers to do what we need them to do.

On a side note, Lucy hears my cookie monster threats and half the time they work on her, half the time they don't. I'm not concerned about this with her because although Lucy has her moments, she is a much better directions follower than Molly right now. I can tell Lucy is really trying to figure out if the cookie monster is real or not. It's neat to see her thinking this through. One day she asked me what the cookie monster comes in and I told her a mixing bowl and that he uses spatulas to drive his mixing bowl to the house. Picture that...... :)

Snowman Snow Measuring Stick

Last week Lucy came home from preschool with a snowman snow measuring stick. She was so very proud of it and excited to show me! It was the sweetest thing! This stick is so neat! I asked Lucy what all she did on it and she said she painted it white. This is so funny to me! She has some great preschool teachers to do all the work like this...marking off and numbering the inches, making sure the eyes, nose, and hat stick on. Cutting the material for the scarf and putting it on. Making the mouth....this is totally a gift for the moms and not a craft for the kids!

And what's even better is that we got two chances to try it out this week! It snowed Sunday morning giving us one inch of snow and then Monday morning giving us about three inches of snow! This is certainly a useful, treasured craft that I'll keep forever!

I Touched The Fire

One night last week we noticed Molly had a blister on her finger. We didn't know what it was from and asked her how she hurt her finger. She just said I don't know. I then remembered that earlier in the day she had come up to me telling me her finger hurt and I asked her why and she said I don't know.

Well, fast forward a little bit to later that evening and we were all sitting on Lucy's bed before bedtime. We looked at her finger again and asked her how she had hurt it. She didn't say anything for a few minutes and then all of a sudden said, "I touched the fire." We were so surprised at what she said and felt bad for her, but yet wanted to laugh, too. She said it in the cutest way and she doesn't quite say her Rs correctly, so it sounded more like "fi-o" or something like that. We've had our gas fireplace on lately because it has been so cold and we've told both girls not to touch it. Lucy is very good about obeying things like that. Molly, on the other hand, is still learning that skill. :)

Playing Peek-A-Boo

One night Ross started playing peek-a-boo with the girls using the Lamb Chop puppet we have. The girls thought it was hilarious! It is so much fun to listen to them laugh so hard like this! Watch here and enjoy!

Christmas Lights Attire

A few weeks ago we went out one Friday night to drive around looking at Christmas lights. We told the girl to get ready to go and this is how we found them. :)

Graduation!

Ross graduated from Missouri State University with his accounting degree on Friday, December 15, 2017. He went back to school in August of 2014 to get the degree in order to make a career change. He took 10 classes over the course of three years and did a great job balancing everything. He even got an A in every class he took! We are very proud of him and also very glad school is over! You can watch him get his diploma here!
