Halloween Costumes

I'm pretty proud of the Halloween costumes Lucy and Molly wore this year. They were so cute, fun, easy and pretty cheap to make! Lucy was Jessie from Toy Story and Molly was a Cabbage Patch Kid. I made the Jessie costume for maybe a total of $15 and the Cabbage Patch Kid was about $9. Aren't they just so good!?

My Second Job

I have a second job of watching our neighbor's boy after school. His name is Cameron and I watched him after school last fall, too. I took a break during the spring semester since I had Molly, but started watching him again this past August. Cameron just turned 16 and has Downs Syndrome. He is a junior at Kickapoo High School here in Springfield and has the mental capacity of maybe a four or five-year-old.

It's a very easy job. The bus drops him off right at my curb and we have a routine of him getting off the bus, coming in to use the restroom, and then hanging out on the couch and watching a movie until his mom picks him up. I have him anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours and get paid $25 a day. It's a very easy job for me and easy money.

Last fall that's exactly how I saw it - an easy job and easy money. This fall is a little different, though. I'm so happy to watch him. I know it is a big relief to his parents to have him go somewhere they trust and he feels right at home at. His Mom has shared with me some of the issues she has with Cameron and his classes and I'm happy to listen to her and just be an extra support or encouragement to her by providing worry-free afterschool care for him. Lucy isn't usually awake when Cameron is here because it's nap time, but when she is up, she loves playing with him. It's really a win-win situation all the way around for everyone involved.

Cameron's 16th birthday was last week and I had a little cake and present for him to celebrate today. Cameron really liked me singing "Happy Birthday" to him and he enjoyed blowing out his candle. I'm so happy to be able to watch him and help his family out in this way!

Baby Video Monitor

We got this baby video monitor shortly after Molly was born. With Lucy we had just an audio monitor, but I wish we would have had the video monitor when she was a baby. It has been so neat to watch Molly through this while she's sleeping. I was surprised to find her standing up in the crib one day a few weeks ago when I checked it during her nap. If you have a baby you should definitely invest in a video monitor! They're a little pricey, but we bought this second hand so it wasn't too bad.

Nap Time At Gumma and Poppy's

Ross and I took Lucy to Silver Dollar City yesterday and Molly went to my Mom and Dad's house for the day. It would have been fine to take Molly to SDC, but we could get around much quicker with just Lucy. And it wouldn't have been much fun for Molly to be in the stroller all day long, either.

Molly has been to my Mom and Dad's house a lot so I wasn't worried about her being scared or anything. It's so nice to drop her off and not worry about her during the day. Mom also has lots of toys there for Molly to play with, a changing table for her stocked with diapers and wipes, and a crib. It's actually the crib that Stephanie and I slept in when we were babies. So, it's a great set up at Gumma and Poppy's and I don't have to worry about sending anything other than extra clothes for Molly if needed!

My Mom is good to text me throughout the day to keep me updated on what they're doing and how Molly is getting along. I really appreciate that. Yesterday she sent me some funny pictures around Molly's morning nap time. I just had to share them....

This picture was taken after Mom laid Molly down in the crib at the beginning of her nap. I guess she didn't really feel like napping at the time!

This picture came about 5-10 minutes later. She was fast asleep.

And then I got these two sweet pictures about 30 minutes later. I guess her nap time was over! Mom did not place Molly sitting like this, Molly did it on her own! It's so funny to me! Molly is very mobile and can really get around. Such a fun little girl!

A Fun Text

Ross go this text at church yesterday and it was the best text ever!

It was from one of our friends who was Lucy's teacher, along with his wife, in her Sunday school class at church. It was a welcome text because the last time he and his wife were her teacher he texted saying we needed to come and get her because she was crying. We've had trouble lately with Lucy being very clingy and crying when we leave her at Sunday school, even though she always has a good time. This text was so fun to read and so, so, so true to who Lucy is! I hope she's always this fun!

A Double Screen Night

Ross has one class this semester and it's on a Monday nights from 7-8:50pm. It's nice that he's home to each dinner with us, but does stink that he has to leave and go out for the evening. We usually tag team bath and bedtime, one of us taking Molly, the other taking Lucy, and it works out very well. Monday nights I do bath and bedtime on my own and sometimes it's kind of hard to keep one occupied while I help the other. Molly is pretty easily entertained these days. Lucy isn't so much.

One Monday night she asked to watch one of her recorded shows, so I thought why not. I set her up on the bean bag chair in the guest room with her show and went to get Molly's bath. I came back in to check on Lucy and realized she was playing the iPad, while watching her show. I hadn't given her the iPad, she took it without me knowing.  Normally I would not let her do this, it would be one or the other, but sometimes you have to bend the rules a little and allow for a double screen night!
