Molly

Molly is just the sweetest little girl and I've noticed that her personality is really starting to show since she's been in preschool. She is becoming her own little person and I love this! She loves going to preschool and has been excited about it from day one. She has been doing great, and even got a progress report sent home today telling what all she can do. I am very proud of her!

Both of her teachers have told me on separate occasions how Molly is such a good little girl and they love having her in class. They said she is a good friend and everyone really likes Molly and wants to play with her. They say she is very kind and has a best friend, Elliott, who loves Molly as much as Molly loves him. This is so nice to hear and just warms my heart. :)

Things Will Always Be Found

The girls have had a dollhouse for almost two years now. The dollhouse came with some furniture, one piece being the piano pictured below. The piano has three legs on it that are not permanently attached, and for the last year one piano leg has been missing. I have looked and looked and looked for it, never being able to find it. I always figured it would show up somewhere, but never guessed it would show up when getting my fall/Halloween decorations out this year!

I have no idea how or why this happened, but the missing piano leg showed up in one of the pumpkin cups the girls got as a gift last year. The cup got packed away after Halloween last year, and when I was getting all my decorations out  few weeks ago, Lucy took the cup and showed me the leg that was inside of it. At first I couldn't figure out what it was, and then realized it was the missing piano leg! I laughed and laughed and laughed at this! And thinking back to it, the way Lucy got the cup out of my box and found the leg, it seems like maybe she knew it was in there all along?! Who knows. I'm just glad to have the leg back so the piano can stand up again. And I did take some hot glue and glue all three legs into the piano so hopefully we wont' have this problem again!

Lucy And The Balance Beam

I'm so proud of Lucy! She's been doing gymnastics for a few weeks now and really seems to like it. I wasn't too excited about gymnastics because I thought dance would suit her better, but this last week I realized that maybe gymnastics is just perfect for her right now. In this video here, you can watch her stand up on the balance beam and walk on it all by herself. This is big for her! She tends to be a bit on the scared/fearful side when it comes to doing things like this. And the times we've been to open gym, she won't go anywhere near the balance beam, even with my help! I was so excited and so proud to see her do this balance beam exercise! I realized that maybe gymnastics is exactly what she needs right now to help her conquer some fears and gain some confidence. So I'm proud of Lucy and I'm proud of myself for allowing her to do gymnastics even when it wasn't what I wanted for her. :)

PTA

I'm a proud member of the Horace Mann Elementary School PTA! I have looked forward to being a part of the PTA for a long time and look forward to being involved over the next eight years we will be in school there! In fact, all my life when thinking of having kids in elementary I've always planned on being a part of it. I think my main reason for wanting to be a part of the PTA is to learn as much as I can about the school and the people at the school. I don't want to be a helicopter parent; I just want to be in the know about things as much as possible! I'm not signing my life away to the PTA and am selective about what I volunteer for, but I definitely plan to attend each meeting I can and be involved.

Funny story...I told a few friends I was going to the PTA meeting and they could tell my excitement about this. One friend looked at me and said, "You know most of the time the PTA has a class perform a song or something, just to get parents to attend?" The other friend just laughed! We all laughed, actually, because I understand their lack of interest in the PTA and totally get it. And they understand my excitement for it. I guess we need all kinds of people...those excited for PTA and those not excited for PTA...to help make the world go round, don't we?!

Lucy And Mommy

Lucy likes to draw pictures and we think she's very good at it for five years old. Lately, she especially likes to draw pictures of the two of us together. I just love these so much! She drew the picture on the purple paper at home and labeled each picture with the first letter of it's word. She put an R by the rainbow, an M by Mommy, an L by Lucy, an F by the flowers, etc.

The next picture and wording was done on the dry erase board/easel we have in the basement. She actually took the picture of it with my phone because she loves taking pictures of everything like that. I just love her drawing and creativity!

9-1-1

One of Lucy's class activities during the day is to have a project based learning time. A few weeks ago during this time her class learned about safety and ways to stay safe. One of the parts of safety they learned about was 9-1-1 and what it meant to call that number and how to do so. I thought this was great, especially since we haven't ever talked to the girls about this. I think we've discussed needing to do this, but just never have. Then we realized the girls didn't know how to use our phones to make a phone call. They know how to play games, watch videos, and take/look at pictures, but they don't know how to use the phone as it's main function - a telephone. We had a fun night teaching them how to use our phones and calling Gumma and Poppy and Aunt Stephanie. We also practiced calling 9-1-1, and made sure they know to never call this number unless it actually is an emergency.

The drawing below is the phone Lucy drew at school during this unit. I just love her artwork!
