Father's Day 2022

We had a nice Father's Day this year! We went to church and then came home and went swimming at our pool. My parents came over that evening for dinner. Ross made steaks and showed off his grill master skills! He's really gotten good at grilling! And he's such a good dad! He's just an all around good guy and we are lucky to have him!

Burned Toast!

I usually have a piece of toast with peanut butter on it each morning for breakfast. A lot of times I get it ready while I'm getting the girls' lunch together for school and often times I forget about it and it burns! Molly thinks this is so funny and laughed the other day when I burned my toast again! She's such a fun, silly girl!

Phone Surprises

I have some new backgrounds on my phone now! One is my screen saver and one is my wallpaper. I bet you can guess who set this up for me! :)

Wax Memories

Lucy received a goody bag with all sorts of supplies from the orthodontist after having her expander placed in her mouth. I laughed to myself when the hygienist showed us the wax! It brought back so many memories of using wax on my braces when I was a little! The long, cylinders of wax in the little case - exactly the same as 30 years ago! Fun memories!

An Expander For Lucy

Lucy had an expander put in her mouth last week. She will also get braces on her front four teeth in about three months. The expander will work to give her mouth more space for all her teeth. She did a great job with getting it put in, but I know it hurt a bit! There has definitely been a learning curve with eating and drinking, as the expander is place on the roof of her mouth and just takes up space in her little mouth!

Movies!

Ross and I really don't go to see movies very often. We didn't see movie very often even when we didn't have kids and had more disposable income. We don't go because we need to find childcare, movies are expensive, and there's not really a whole lot out that we really want to see. That changed this past May when Top Gun Maverick came out! Ross had been looking forward to seeing this since it was first supposed to come out in 2020. The release date was pushed back due to covid, and it finally came out on Memorial Day weekend. He bought out tickets a few weeks before that, I lined up childcare with my parents, and we had a great night out seeing the movie. It was really good and we both look forward to seeing it again!

And just four days later I took the girls to see Minions at the movie theater for part of a "kids camp" summer movie program this movie theater is sponsoring. Family/kid-friendly movies are only $5 during the summer, so I took the girls to see that movie one day. I found another movie theater in town that is doing summer movies like this, too, but for only $2/ticket! We will definitely be seeing more movies this summer!

Mancala

I have introduced my kids to the game Mancala. I remember playing it when I was a little girl, maybe in elementary school, and really enjoyed it. One day when we were out shopping I saw it in the game aisle and decided to buy it for myself. It's a strategy game where you want to fill up your "mancala" with marbles and be the first to clear your side of the board. I've played it with both girls and Ross and they seem to like it. It's a good thinking/strategy game and Molly really seems to enjoy it and be good at it, too.

Memorial Day Tradition

We took our annual trip out to the cemetery to see my Aunt Marilee on Memorial Day weekend. I have been doing this for quite a few years and have enjoyed bringing the girls along. I hope this is something we will always do and that they will continue doing someday on their own.

Mixer Parts - Who Knew!?

When we got married we bought ourselves a nice, KitchenAid mixer with some wedding money. I was so very excited to get this mixer. I wrote a blog post about it which you can read here

Well, fast-forward 12 years and we are finally using an attachment part that came with the mixer! I remember getting the attachment, but just stuck it in the basement and never used it. Last week Ross was needing a meat grinder and he wondered if the mixer attachment we had was a meat grinder. We had to do a little searching for the attachment and then we also had to do a little searching to figure out just what that attachment piece actually was! We discovered it was not a meat grinder, but a slicer/shredder.

Ross was a little disappointed that it wasn't a meat grinder, but we did put it to use slicing up a cucumber for Molly and then shredding up some cheese for our dinner that night. The cheese shredding was great! It was so easy to do and a much quicker than using a hand shredder. We will definitely be using it again and think it's so funny that we waited 12 years to use it!

Church Camp For Lucy!

Lucy went to church camp June 1-4! She had a great time and I am so thankful that she was able to go! I went to church came with my best friend, Kara, the summer before 3rd and 4th grade or maybe 4th and 5th grade. It was such a fun time and I'm just so very thankful and happy Lucy got to go. She was a little reluctant about going when I first asked her about it, but she decided she wanted to go. She has two friends who are her age and go to the same church, so she went to their church camp. She left on a Wednesday around 2:30 and got back on Saturday around 2:30. A friend of mine (whose daughter is a friend of Lucy's) went to camp as a counselor with her daughter and sent me pictures over the camp days. I was so thankful to have these pictures to know what all she was doing! It's really weird to not be able to talk to your nine-year-old child whenever you want!

We had fun getting everything together for Lucy and I explained to her how the bathrooms might be and how to make up her bed, and different things like that that I would do for her if we were together. I'm so proud of Lucy! She did a great job at camp and had a great time. She's very excited to go back next year! She's even been reading her Bible every day since she got back and I hope that continues!
