Thanksgiving Fun

We had a nice Thanksgiving day last week! Since 2004, I have been doing the Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning, but this year due to Covid the Turkey Trot was "virtual" and didn't really happen. Lucy was sad about this so we did a little walk around our neighborhood that morning for our own Turkey Trot, and then later in the day we did a Covid Trot after our Thanksgiving dinner!

We spent the day at my sister's house in Joplin with her family, her mother-in-law, and my parents. It was a really nice time with good food and good weather. Lucy got everyone organized and got their race bib numbers on them for our Covid Trot and we did about a one mile walk around their neighborhood! It was a nice day and we do have so very much to be thankful for!

Birthday Fun!

My 42nd birthday was three weeks ago today and it was a fun day. It started off with a surprise on our porch from our neighbors! On October 21, I gave their son (who I used to watch after school) some cinnamon rolls for a birthday present. Whenever I make my homemade cinnamon rolls I always give them some because they love them. Mike, Cameron's dad, joked with me that his birthday was November 2 and that I could give him some cinnamon rolls. I told him well my birthday is November 7, so you can get me something, too. He said that he'd make sure to find me something from Amazon. Well, I did give him some cinnamon rolls for his birthday but they were store bought instead of homemade. And he did give me a bunch of <<empty>>boxes from Amazon for my birthday! This was the funniest thing to come home to and see on my front porch!

Ross and the girls gave me breakfast in bed on my birthday and then we just hung out at home. We ran a few errands and had lunch out. I took a nap that afternoon and then my parents and my sister and her family came over for dinner. My dad brought his flat top grill over and Ross made us a yummy Japanese steakhouse dinner. You can watch Chef Ross making our dinner here! After dinner we opened presents and had some cookie cake for dessert. Lucy gave me some very special homemade crafts as presents and they were just perfect! :)

Van Troubles

We had van issues one day last month and it had to get towed to a shop. Turns out it was just a dead battery, but we couldn't even get the car jumped and it was stuck in the garage. Thankfully, we have AAA with our car insurance, so all I had to do was make a call, answer a few questions, and it was all scheduled. It was kind of a neat process to watch as they were loading the van up onto the tow truck. You can watch it here!

Creepy

Each year after Halloween I turn our jack-o-lanterns that are on our front porch around so the uncut side is facing the street. I do this so we can still enjoy the pumpkins for a little bit longer with my fall decor on the porch.

This is the view now that I see through the side windows on our front door when walking down our hallway. I find it just a little bit creepy, especially when you're not expecting to see two pumpkin heart eyes staring at you!

Small Spaces

Even though they're getting big, the girls are still small enough to cuddle up into some really small places! Lucy and Molly both got into their laundry baskets and Molly decided to get into a box that was in our basement. Silly girls!

Sonic Commercials!

One afternoon I took Molly to a birthday party so Ross and Lucy went to have a special date afternoon together. One of their stops was Sonic where they both got a treat. They tried to make a Sonic commerical in the car while there. They probably need a little more practice before sending it in! You can watch it here!

Lucy's Writing Journal

One nice thing about doing school at home is that I've had a first-hand seat to seeing what type of work the girls are doing at school. One of Lucy's at home assignments each Monday and Tuesday was to do a page in her writing journal. She could write about her weekend, pick from several listed topics, or come up with her own topic to write about. I enjoyed helping her with it and do love seeing what all she wrote! Here are a few pages from her October writing journal.

Halloween 2020!

We had a fun Halloween this year! The weekend before Halloween we had a Harvest Party at our church that we went to. The girls had a great time and it was fun seeing them running around playing with other friends.

I carved our jack-o-lanterns this year as Lucy and Molly looked on........Molly wanted stars for eyes and Lucy wanted hearts for eyes on her. I think I did a pretty good job of making that happen! The night before Halloween I took Lucy and Molly to the Spooky Symphony. The Springfield Symphony puts this free event on each year and kids are encouraged to come dressed in costume. We met up with our friends, Dana and Darby at Chick Fil A for dinner beforethe symphony and then went to it with them. It was a fun time!

Halloween day was a great day of just hanging out at home in the morning and then the fun began at 3:30 that afternoon! We had a Halloween costume bike parade in our neighborhood and had some friends join us for it, too. I organized the parade and it we had a good turnout for it! I hope to do it again next year! Our friends, Steve, Dana, Darby, and Owen came over for the parade and then stayed to play for a bit, have dinner, and go trick or treating together. Gumma and Poppy came over for dinner and trick or treating, too. It was a perfect weather day and just fun to be outside. The trees in our neighborhood are so pretty, too! We got a decent haul of candy for our trick or treating and I was pleasantly surprised at the amoung of people handing out candy and the amount of people we saw our trick or treating. I'm glad covid did not ruin it this year!
