A Fickle Fan

Lucy is so funny. About every 2 months or so she comes up with a new favorite show. She seems to binge watch, so-to-say, one show until she finds a new one. She's had lots of loves in her life already, and here are just a few...

Make Way For Noddy
Daniel Tiger
Doc McStuffins
Paw Patrol
Ready, Jet, Go!
The Floogals
Alvin and the Chipmunks

It's so funny to us how she is just all about one show for a week or so and then on to another one, as if the first didn't exist. Such a fickle fan! But one thing is for sure, she loves to watch TV! She would be content to watch shows all day long if we let her. Sometimes it's really nice that she like to watch TV. It's very helpful at times when I need to get something done and I need her to not be underfoot. :)

Makeup

I recently got new makeup and I think it was time! It's been over three years since I got new makeup. I'm sure there's a timeframe on makeup and I'd imagine I went way over it. I also cleaned my makeup holder, which I should do more often!

Egg Hunts

We were at a friend's house for dinner one night and before we got ready to leave we discovered that Molly had an egg hunt while we were there. Pam had a decorative bowl by her door filled with eggs and Molly picked each one up and placed them in our bag that had her booster seat in it. It was the funniest thing! Molly is such an mischievous little thing!

Stuck

So this happened a few Monday nights ago!

Molly got this knitting loom stuck around her neck. I didn't see her put it on, just saw that she had it around her neck so went to take it off, but it would not come off! I tried a few times and it would not budge. She was crying, more like screaming, and I was afraid of hurting her so stopped trying. It wasn't tight around her neck, it just wouldn't go over her head. Ross wasn't home, he was at school taking a final so I was thinking through what to do and thought I just might have to take her to the ER
to have them remove it.

I looked out the window and saw that our neighbor's car was home so I gathered up Molly and Lucy (who was dressed in her princess dress, crown, wand, and tennis shoes) and headed over to Mike and Cindy's house. Thankfully, Molly wasn't crying when we went over there and thankfully, Cindy was home. She was so nice and calm and knew exactly what I needed when she opened the door to see us standing there, Molly with the loom around her neck!

Cindy got some lotion and put it on Molly's forehead to see if that would help the loom slide over her head. It didn't. She went to the backyard to find her husband's garden clipper to see if that would cut the plastic, but she couldn't find them and Mike wasn't home.

Cindy's neighbor, Allen, was outside mowing his lawn at the time so we walked over to him to see if he could help. He tried pulling it off, but as with Cindy and myself, it wouldn't budge. He found a pair of garden clippers in his garage and tried to cut the loom (it was made of plastic) but the plastic was too thick to cut through. So, naturally, he got out his hacksaw and started sawing through the loom! It was quite nerve-racking! He was cutting so close to Molly's head and he even got my finger a little because I was holding her head trying to protect her from the loom. I'm sure it was nerve-racking for Allen, knowing he was using a hacksaw so close to a baby's head!

Molly was crying the whole time, too. I don't think she was in pain, more so just scared. He kept cutting through the loom and stopped just before it was all the way through and used his garden clippers to finish the job. He cut through it and we were able to get the loom off of Molly, no problem at all. In fact, we got it off just in time for Ross to get home from school and come over to talk to us. Molly was in good spirits and even started laughing and walking around. What a little stinker!

Silver Dollar City Jail

I wonder how many families have pictures like this? I know there's one of my sister and I when we were little like this. Such fun pictures. :)

Shoe Shopping And Diaper Changes

One of Molly's favorite things to do is play with the diaper caddy I have in my diaper bag. She likes take everything out of it and lay down as if she's going to have her diaper changed. One day we were shoe shopping for Lucy and Molly occupied herself for about 10 minutes by playing with the diaper caddy. It was the funniest thing! She laid down on the floor in the middle of an aisle and wanted us to change her diaper. She is at such a fun age right now!

Ear Infections

We have had quite the battle with ear infections this past fall and winter. They began last November with Lucy and continued in December with both girls, and on into January and February. I would take one girl in to have checked and go home with a prescription to help the ear infection and then be back to the doctor a few days later for the other girl. In January and February we were at the doctor's office every three weeks for ear infections. So, when we were recently at the Discovery Center, I found it fitting to have the girls take a picture with the giant ear exhibit. :)

I Wish Everyone Had A Gumma

My Mom has been a Mom for 41+ years and a grandmother for 14+ years and she goes by Gumma. My oldest nephew, Trevor, named her Gumma and she has gone by that ever since. She had a lot of practice at being a Gumma before Lucy was born in April 2013, and helped out my sister a lot with babysitting, etc. And now she has been beyond helpful with me and Ross and our kids. Here are just a few of the things she does for us.....

She babysits when I need to take a kid to the doctor. I'm sure there are times when it isn't the most convenient for her or she'd rather work on her projects, but she helps me instead.

She babysits when I need a "free day" or I need to get a bunch of things done without kids in tow. She's always so willing to do this, too.

She taught Lucy her first Bible verses before she turned two. I don't think I would have thought to do this until a few years later.

She gave me a bag full of shiny pennies and envelopes so we could start teaching Lucy to give money to church each Sunday. I would not have thought to do this on my own.

She started a bedtime ritual with Lucy that's called "do today" where we go through and talk about everything we did that day. Lucy loves this part of bedtime and will not let us leave the room until we've gone through it. Mom told me how she did this with her a few times and I thought it was neat so started doing it every day with Lucy and will do it with Molly soon, too.

She came with me each month during Lucy's first year to help me while I had Lucy's monthly pictures done and helped me figure out what to have her wear. And when Molly was born she watched Lucy while I took Molly to have her pictures done because it would have been very challenging to have them both there together.

When I went into labor with Molly, she took Lucy home to spend the night and once Lucy was asleep, she left Lucy at home with Poppy and came back to the hospital to help all night while I labored with Molly, and then went home to take care of Lucy.

She stayed with us as long as we needed during Lucy and Molly's first weeks. And while staying with us she took care of our meals and cleaned our house, even the deep cleaning that no one really wants to do.

She came over at midnight when Molly was just three weeks old and I had mastitis. She stayed in our guest room, and during this time she would bring Molly to me in the middle of the night when she woke up to eat and when Molly was done eating I texted my Mom and she came to get Molly to put her back to bed so I didn't have to get up and Ross could continue sleeping.

She helped out in countless ways with Lucy during my pregnancy with Molly and after she was born.

She's helped pay for clothes, parties, gifts, and lots of miscellaneous things for both of our girls. .

She is always interested in what Lucy and Molly are up to and asks to see pictures or videos of them.

She always offers to help whenever needed and is very selfless with her time.

She is such a selfless helper to me, to my sister, to my Dad, to her friends, to countless people throughout the years. She doesn't often get the credit she is owed or deserved, but you would never hear her complain about that at all. She truly makes my life easier and I am so very thankful for her help. However, I'm not only thankful for her help, but for the mother that she was and is to me. She would tell you that she wasn't a good mother because she didn't teach me how to cook, didn't teach me how to fold a fitted sheet, didn't teach me how to garden, and other things like that. To that, though, I would say that I didn't care to learn all those things at the time and she has been a good mother because she has taught me so many other things that truly matter in life.....how to think of others first, how to make others feel special, how to remember who you are, how to put on my raincoat and let the raindrops (mean things people say to you) roll right off.....

I truly wish everyone had a Gumma in their life to help them because I don't know what I would do without mine. Happy Mother's Day, Mom! I love you!

Breakfast For One

Lucy hardly ever eats breakfast anymore. I don't remember when this started, but she used to eat yogurt and fruit for breakfast each morning. Now she has a cup of orange juice and occasionally a powdered donut if we have any on hand. I always offer her breakfast, either fruit, cottage cheese, yogurt, anything I can think of that she might want to eat. She most always turns me down, so I was thrilled the other morning when she said she wanted yogurt. I got her yogurt and juice ready and she said she wanted to eat it at her table. I started to say no, but then changed my mind. It didn't really matter where she was eating it, but more so that she was eating it. So she sat at her little table in the living room and had breakfast. All by herself. I love my Lucy!

Holy Hailstorm!

One Sunday afternoon in March we had a hailstorm. This was the biggest, longest, and loudest hailstorm I've ever seen. It was really neat to stand on our back deck (which thankfully is covered) and watch the hail come down. All of the hail in the back yard, front yard, and street looked like snow. It was the neatest thing!

Chocolate Chips

One day at lunch Lucy decided she needed some chocolate chips. She knows I keep them in the freezer so she decided to get them out herself. I was at the kitchen table helping Molly with lunch so my back was to Lucy. I did turn around, though, when I heard the sound of several little things spilling on the floor, along with a munchkin-sounding "uh-oh" coming from the freezer.

I walked over to find Lucy standing there looking at me with a sad and kind of scared look on her face. As she pulled out the BIG bag of chocolate chips, the chips spilled out onto the kitchen floor. Luckily, a towel was on the floor and the majority of the chips spilled on the towel, making it easier to clean them up. I was a bit frustrated with this, but didn't get onto Lucy. Yes, she shouldn't have gotten the bag out herself without asking, but I should have taped the bag shut when I put it back into the freezer after using it last.

Lesson learned.

Sadly, though, this is probably just a lesson learned on my part and not yet quite learned on Lucy's part. :)
