Penny War!

PTA sponsored a Penny War a few weeks ago at school and it was a fun time! We had a jar set up for each class and students could put money in jars to either increase or decrease that class's total amount of money. Pennies and all bills equaled a positive count and all silver coins equaled a negative count. So a class could have $100 of actual cash in their jar, but if $60 of it was in silver coins, their Penny War total would actually be $40 instead of $100!

It's a fun week and lots of kids and teachers get very competitive with the whole thing! The top three classes and the most sabotaged class win a popcorn party, certificate, and trophy. The 1st place class also got to silly string our principal at a school assembly. Lucy's class was the winning class and she had a lot of fun with the silly string!

We had a goal of raising $2,500 that would all go towards playground improvements. We didn't quite make our goal, but did raise $2,250, with $1,100 of that coming on the last day alone! We had volunteers to count the money but some of the jars were so full that we took them to the bank and had the bank count it for us with their coin machine!
