Anniversary Celebration at Home

I have already blogged about our anniversary celebration in Hawaii, so now it's time to share about our anniversary celebration at home!

First, we came home from vacation to find that our table had been decorated and set for breakfast by my mom. She did the same thing for us last year when we got back from our honeymoon. She used "Hawaii" scrapbook paper for placemats, and gave us sparkling grape juice (a staple in the Ward house), a banana for Ross, and a cinnamon crunch bagel for me.

Sunday night Ross and I celebrated our anniversary for the final time with a nice dinner in our dining room (we hardly ever eat in there) and ate off of our china plates. I also burned the unity candle we lit together during our wedding ceremony. Good times, and yes, I had to document it with a picture, which Ross LOVES :)

Then came the part we waited for for over one year, literally.

Eating the cake topper from our wedding cake! The cake topper has been in our freezer and we were really looking forward to eating it, wondering if it would taste good or not. (On a side note, it is so nice to have that out of our freezer! It took up a whole shelf and it's nice to now have that space available.) We got the cake out and found that it had been wrapped pretty well in several layers of foil, so were hopeful that it wasn't freezer burned.

Wedding cake then...

...wedding cake now!

To our enjoyment, the cake tasted pretty good! The icing was SO sweet and the cake still had it's flavor. It was much better on 4/17/10, but not too bad for being in our freezer for over one year. We have been enjoying eating it this week!

When we fed each other the cake on our wedding day, we were pretty nice to each other. We didn't smash the cake in each others faces, just fed each other in a nice, clean manner.

Not so much the second time around! I used the engraved knife we had from our wedding and we cut the cake together, and then had fun smashing the cake on each other. Fun times!

Anniversary Celebration in Hawaii

Ross and I have had lots of little anniversary celebrations throughout the past week. Our first celebration was on our actual anniversary day, April 17. We woke up to our first full day in Hawaii and took a walk on the beach that morning. It was such an enjoyable time walking on the beach, listening to the sound of the crashing waves, and talking about all the things we did during our first year of marriage.

Kaiula Beach, Hawaii

Happy One Year to Us!

After our walk on the beach we had breakfast at a local breakfast restaurant and then came back to our room for a nap. At 8:30am. Vacation life is great! We slept for about an hour and then headed to the beach to play in the sun for a while.

In the afternoon we walked around Kailua, the town we stayed in. They were having a town festival so we walked around and looked at the shops and the booths that were set up along the streets. It was a fun time, but very hot!

Ross has a couple of friends who live in Hawaii so that night we went to one of their houses for a BBQ. It was a good time hanging out and catching up with them. We left the BBQ around 7:30pm and weren't quite ready to go home, so we found a mini-golf course and played a round of mini-golf.

It didn't take very long to go through the mini-golf course, so after that we stopped at Orange Tree for a dessert of frozen yogurt. We had such a great time celebrating our one-year anniversary!

Back To Life, Back To Reality....

It's back to work for Ross and I today after an absolutely wonderful Hawaii vacation last week. We had such a great time! I plan to share about it through several posts in the next few weeks. But for now, here's a sneak peak of the beautiful scenery!

1/2 Marathon #8

Today I'm running the St. Louis Go! 1/2 marathon. I have wanted to run this race for the past few years, but my scheduled has never allowed for it. This year when I realized I had nothing on my calendar for this date, I decided to go ahead and do it!

I'm running with with my friend and running partner, Stephanie. (I actually call her Running Stephanie, and my friends know her as Running Stephanie, too! I started doing this to not confuse her with my sister Stephanie, and I put her in my phone as Running Stephanie to not accidently text my sister Stephanie at 5am if I couldn't run that day.) I met Stephanie quite a few years back at one of my aerobics classes. It's a funny story - she came to my class at Chesterfield Family Center for a while and then left. About a year later she came to my class at Cox Fitness Center for a while and then left. Then another year later she showed up at my class at the YMCA. It was here that we became friends and running partners. We both had both planned on doing the Bass Pro Marathon in 2008 and decided to run and train together. We met every MWF morning at 5:45am for a five-mile run, and adjusted that schedule a bit once we started marathon training. So many Saturday mornings we would meet early before the sun came up to begin out "Tour of Springfield." We had a great time and so many fun memories from our training runs!

I'm sure we'll have as much fun today running the St. Louis 1/2 marathon. It will be fun running through the city and seeing all the sites. I sure hope we have good weather!

Leavin' On A Jet Plane...In Seven Days!!

Ross and I will be leaving for Hawaii in just seven days!!! We are so super excited for this vacation and have been talking about it ever since we first started dating! We're flying out of Kansas City on Saturday, April 16, at 7am, to arrive in Hawaii around 1pm (Hawaii time). We'll be staying on the island of Oahu and plan to hit the beach, snorkel, shop, hike, visit Pearl Harbor, take in a Luau, go to the zoo, site-see, and do lots of relaxing. Fun times ahead!!

I Forgot It Again

I came home from work yesterday to find this:

It's the piece of toast with peanut butter that I made for myself, before I left for work that morning! This is not the first time I've forgotten my toast, and just hate it when I do that. I usually get the toast ready as I'm eating my cereal, and eat the toast in the car on my way to work. When my toast is ready I set it on the counter by the toaster oven. I usually have my lunch, purse, coat, etc., on the island or kitchen table, which is on the other side of the kitchen in location to the toaster oven. I just completely forget to grab my toast, and the funny thing is, I never realize it once in the car or at work. I remember it when I get home at night and see it on the counter.

Oh well, maybe I'll remember next time!

Fashion Faux Pas?

I like to think of myself as fashionable. My style would be defined as professional, classy, and subtle, not so much trendy. My clothes are in style and I will buy the latest fashion trend, if it looks good on me. So many "in-style/trendy" clothes I try on, though, just look silly on me!

So, on to the point of this post. What do you think of what I have on in this picture? Specifically, what do you think of my choice of sock color?

This is a picture of my pant legs, socks, and shoes I wore one day last week. The pants were a blue color that complimented my red sweater quite nicely. I chose these shoes because I hardly ever wear them and thought they'd go well with the rest of the outfit.

I'm not so sure, though, about my choice of socks for the day! I don't have any socks that match the color of my pants, or the color of these particular shoes. My choice was white socks or dark brown socks. As you can see the white socks won out, and I'm afraid they just don't look right! I thought about this when putting the socks on in the morning, but figured it wouldn't matter much, as you the socks aren't seen when when I walk. Sitting down, though, is another story! I wonder if tan or beige colored socks would have been a better choice, but I don't think I have any socks in those colors.

My question to you - what's the proper matching technique in situations like this? Match the socks to the pants or match the socks to the shoes? Please, as you can see, I need help!

A Year Ago.....

Lately I've been thinking a lot about this time last year, thinking about all the wedding planning and last minute details we were dealing with. It is so much fun to remember all those fun times! A year ago today Ross and I went to the courthouse to purchase our marriage license and a year ago next Friday we went on our last date as single people! Oh it is just really fun to think back on and remember.

Our first year of marriage has been really great. Sure, we have our disagreements here and there, but for the most part we have adjusted to married life and living together very nicely. It is just so hard to believe we're approaching our one-year anniversary already! We're looking forward to eating the cake topper to our wedding cake that's been in our freezer for the past year. I sure hope it tastes good!
