Happy Easter!

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.
Matthew 28:5-6

Happy Easter!!

What a wonderful day today is! The day Jesus rose from the dead!

Below I have copied song lyrics from the old hymn, "Up from the Grave He Arose." I thought about posting a lot of different song lyrics here, all of them very fitting to the day. There are so many good songs that describe today..."Because He Lives," "The Wondrous Cross," "In Christ Alone," "He Is Risen," "The Old Rugged Cross," and many, many more. But, I chose this one because I remember singing it with my Gramma Ward years ago on Easter Sunday.

When I was maybe 10 or 11 years old, one year our church held its Easter service at the Hammon's Student Center on the Campus of then Southwest Missouri State University. I don't remember why it was held there, but I'm sure it was to allow for as many people as possible to attend service that day. My Gramma and Grampa Ward visited over Easter that year and we went to this service together. I remember when we sang this song during the service, my Gramma and I sang the "up from the grave He arose" in a low voice and it was just so much fun!

Up from the Grave He Arose

Low in the grave he lay, Jesus my Savior,
waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave he arose;
with a mighty triumph o'er his foes;
he arose a victor from the dark domain,
and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Vainly they watch his bed, Jesus my Savior,
vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave he arose;
with a mighty triumph o'er his foes;
he arose a victor from the dark domain,
and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!

Death cannot keep its prey, Jesus my Savior;
he tore the bars away, Jesus my Lord!

Up from the grave he arose;
with a mighty triumph o'er his foes;
he arose a victor from the dark domain,
and he lives forever, with his saints to reign.
He arose! He arose! Hallelujah! Christ arose!
